Interviewing Your Potential Photographer Pt. 3
I’ve been talking about how to find the right photographer for YOU. No, I'm not saying that it's me lol. Just like everybody has different preferences in foods, there's no 1 photographer fits for all. Preserving your family history for generations to come is my passion! That's why I want to help you!
Today is a Pt.3 of my “Interviewing Your Potential Photographer”! Yes, It’s still going! I feel this is so important to know exactly what you’re getting from a photographer. Private family photography (not at a mall) can be expensive. You want to make sure you and your photographer are the right fit! So let’s dive in!
Q: What are your session is like?
Isn't this a big question anybody who never had any photo taken want to ask? A photographer should give you an overall idea of how the session goes. How are they going to take photos like you saw on Instagram? And most importantly, you should have a very clear understanding of what is the whole process from the time you book to the delivery/purchase products, will be like to avoid any misunderstandings. If a photographer says, "I just take photos and give them to ya."... You might want to save your money for something else...
A: My session is fun, relaxed, just like hanging out with your family friend. Capture both "everybody smiling at the camera" photos and "in-between lifestyle moments". It’s about 60-90 min, an hour before the sunset usually for the nature sessions. I’m not going over the details here because I don’t want to focus too much about me. You can always call me to discuss your session anytime!
Q: What is your experience working with kids?
If you're a parent with small kids, the last thing you want at a family photo session is stressing out about if your kids will cooperate. Because chances are... they don't. You know it, we know it. Why do you want to stress out about something uncontrollable? That's why it is so important to know if your photographer is experienced in dealing with unexpected moments. You might want to ask how a photographer has handled that type of situation during a phone conversation. Do they sound like they were annoyed by those clients? or do they sound like they enjoyed the session even the situation was a little tough? Parents, you know you now have that "instinct" inside your head that alerts you, "Nah, this guy/girl doesn't like kids". Trust your parenting instinct.
A: As a mama of two kids (9,7), I know exactly how kids get at a photo session. I say why don't we embraced that moment instead of getting frustrated by it! If you (parents) get stressed out about the photo session, your kids will be stressed, too. So focus on yourself on the day of the session. Make your hair pretty, go do mani & pedi ahead of time, drink mimosas if you need to, just relax and enjoy!
Photos: Another in-home lifestyle family session from earlier this year. This family was moving out of the state and it was right before they sold the house. I probably sound like a broken radio, but I just love those im-home relaxing, fun family sessions. I’m even thinking to offer the Mover’s Special! The amount of memories you get from these sessions will make your family smile for a long time for sure…
